Justin Melvey is a contestant from Celebrity Survivor Australia.

Justin entered the merge in a good position within the majority, however he quickly found himself on the bottom after he allegedly made a monetary deal with Nicolle Dickson to keep her in the game and maintain his numbers. Because of this, Justin was eliminated on Day 17 but returned to the game four days later along with Guy Leech. The two became allies, and Justin mended his relationship with former Moso tribemates Imogen Bailey and Nicolle. The girls were convinced to vote off David Oldfield rather than Guy, leading to Justin and Guy gaining significant strategical and physical power in the game. The pair made it to Final Tribal Council where he was chastised for the alleged bribery earlier in the game. Although Justin apologised and claimed the friendships he made were more important than money, he still lost in a 3-2 vote.

Profile[]

As a Sydney-born LA based actor, Justin Melvey is used to spending time away from loved ones so that's the least of his worries about competing on Celebrity Survivor.

"Because I live in Los Angeles and spend a lot of time apart from friends and family, I don't think that will be the hardest part for me," he says.

The 37-year-old's concerns are instead living without his two biggest vices – sugar and sleep.

"I have the sweetest tooth and I'm hypoglycaemic so I really do love my sugar kick," he says. "It keeps my orientation intact so this will be a real test as to whether I can overcome that psychological hardship. This will definitely also test the limits of my mind because food is a big part of my life. I have an Italian/Greek background and I love my food!"

"It will also be really hard to live without my rest. I'm a bit of a homebody at heart so I do love jumping in my cosy bed and I love my soft pillow and comforter. That'll be the test. I mean, I can swim in the ocean, jump off the rocks, go fishing and climb up a tree – that'd be a no brainer for me. But at the end of the day, I love my sleep. And I'm not good at getting up in the morning."

Having represented Australia in freestyle skiing in his teens, Justin went on to modelling around the world, using the work he received to fund his acting career in US TV and film before returning to Australia and winning a Logie award for his lead role in Home and Away. Returning to the US, he starred in both Days Of Our Lives and General Hospital. He now splits his time between Australia and the US and last year was a contestant on Dancing With The Stars.

"It's getting put outside of my comfort zone," he says. "That pretty much sums up my life. I even got through Dancing With The Stars not knowing a thing about dancing. You tend to get comfortable with the lifestyle attributed to this business so I think this will be good for me."

"I think being a professional athlete before being a professional actor has taught me a lot about constructive criticism, determination, discipline and self control. But I do love my food and I do love my chocolate. So this will be a test of my willpower!"

Justin's chosen charity is Diabetes Australia.[1]

Celebrity Survivor Australia[]

Justin was one of two players to enter the game later on Day 1, joining Moso as the only man of the tribe. This was shown to be a useful asset, however Justin feared that the tribe would rely on him for too much. Despite this, he gained some power early on, being considered as an asset by the tribe. He entered into a four person alliance with Amber Petty, Fiona Horne and Nicolle Dickson to keep the tribe as strong as possible, and he also had a strong relationship with Kym Johnson outside of the game. Despite this, Kym asked to be voted out on Day 3; regardless, Justin was in no danger early on in the game.

On Day 6, the cast were shocked with the announcement of a tribe switch, with Justin picking the new Moso tribe. Through this, he ensured he would be joined by allies Amber and Fiona, giving him a majority on the tribe. Despite winning the next Reward Challenge, the new Moso appeared as weak as the last, and after losing the Day 7 Immunity Challenge, the alliance of three targetted David Oldfield for his age. However, annoyed by Fiona's bossiness and poor attitude, Amber flipped on the alliance, shocking Justin and bringing the numbers down 2-2. The tribe lost its second Immunity Challenge in a row, however this time it was Justin who flipped on Amber, outraged by her betrayal at the last tribal council. In spite of his new position in the minority, Moso's newfound challenge strength allowed Justin to make it to the merge.

On Day 12 the tribes merged, and Justin reconviened with ally Nicolle and her new allies of Gabrielle Richens and Imogen Bailey, allowing the four to form a strong majority. This gave Justin an easy path through the early merge; despite Guy Leech's best efforts to flip Gabrielle back to his side, the majority four voted Guy out of the game on Day 13. During this time, David began distancing himself from his former allies in Guy and Elton Flatley, and this combined with David's immunity streak led to Elton's elimination on Day 15. Despite Justin's strong positioning, cracks eventually began to form in the alliance.

Nicolle revealed to Imogen that Justin had attempted to offer her money in exchange for remaining in the game earlier on, and this caused the two to begin targeting Justin, unbeknownst to him and his close ally Gabrielle. Despite David's immunity streak ending on Day 17, Imogen blew up Justin's game at tribal council, exposing his deceptions and claiming to Gabrielle that he was stringing her along. Justin was ultimately unable to save himself and was voted out in a unanimous 4-1 vote, with even Gabrielle turning against him.

On Day 20, Justin was given a chance to re-enter the game, which he ended up winning alongside Guy. The duo realised that they needed each other in order to make it to the end, and so formed a strong alliance. Initially, after Imogen won the Day 21 Immunity Challenge, the two approached David in voting off one of the girls, however David saw through their scheme. Subsequently, Justin decided to exploit his prior relationship with Imogen and Nicolle to instead convince them to vote out David. The two painted David as someone who wanted to bring one of the boys to the end for an easy victory, and ultimately, the duo succeeded in getting the girls to vote out David.

To ensure Justin stayed on his side, Guy shared his next reward win with Justin, solidifying their relationship, and the pair's luck seemed to be up after Guy won a crucial Immunity Challenge on Day 23. Using their combined Moso and Kakula knowledge, the boys figured that Nicolle had more past votes than Imogen, and knowing that the next tribal council would lead to a deadlock tiebreaker, the two chose to target Nicolle. Given himself and Nicolle had the same number of past votes, Justin's fate was placed in the hands of the jury, who, in favour of Guy's chances of winning, chose to instead vote out Nicolle. A day later, Justin would win his first and only Immunity Challenge, putting an end to Imogen's game by casting the sole vote against her.

Making it to Day 25, Justin felt confident about his chances against Guy at Final Tribal Council; however, Justin was heavily criticised for his immorality, especially considering his attempted monetary deal with Nicolle. Although he was able to appease both Nicolle and Imogen, Justin ultimately failed to earn Gabrielle's vote, losing to Guy in a 3-2 vote.
